  1. The most common mistake people make is that they do not know what type of truck they want to be trained on. Hence, before you register for a training course, specify the type of forklift you want to have skills operating. That way also, instructor can deliver the curriculum exact to that kind of truck.

  2. You must also know the skill level you have. There are several courses depending on the skill that you can take, you could either one of these: novice, conversion, semi-experienced or untested operator training and refresher course. For more understanding of these courses, see blow for more details.

  3. Registering for a forklift training course at the accredited training centre is the best way to get certified. They have the capacity and competent instructor to teach students. If you are an employer, you can also contract the centre to deliver the training on-site.

  4. Once you are enrolled, you will be undergoing classroom and practical trainings. These are two most vital components of the course. Inside the classroom, students will learn the basic controls, operational procedures and other specifics of the forklift you want to operate. The most important aspect of the training is highlighting safety at work, you will learn this also. At the end of the lecture, the instructor will administer an examination. Passing it is easy. If you failed the exam, you can read this: what to do if you failed forklift certification test.

  5. Taking the practical driving. The instructor will supervise you regarding the actual driving. He will tell what to do if you are having difficulty what to do. This is where you will implement what you’ve learnt from the classroom. At the end of the practical driving, the instructor will measure your skill by giving you instructions or test to perform such as maneuvering, loading, unloading, reversing, lifting of load from/to a certain elevation, and other tasks that may be deemed necessary.

  6. Receiving your certification. Once you are successful passing the written and practical tests, you will then receive your certificate. Congratulations, you are now a certified forklift operator.
