forklift certification in West VirginiaThe state of West Virginia does not have specific regulation or law pertaining to forklift safety, for that reason, all employers and companies in this state must comply with OSHA standards.

Individuals who are hunting for employment as a forklift driver must have a forklift certification before he can be permitted to operate one. You must complete a training program specific to the type of forklift you are intending to use.

Here, in this article, we are providing you the task you need to complete to get your certification. We are also giving you the list of the training school where you can take your training.

You can also read many of the important factors you need to know when applying for forklift certification, see the topics on the left.

Applying for Forklift Certification

  1. Decide what kind of fork truck you want to operate because the training course must be specific to that type of equipment.

  2. Enroll in forklift training at a school near you. We have provided a list of schools with addresses, see them below.

  3. Attend the classroom lectures and discussions. It will take around 5 hours to complete this part. You must absorb as much knowledge as possible. You will use that on the written test of the training.

  4. After you have completed the classroom lecture, you will need to undergo the actual forklift driving. The trainer will be demonstrating how to drive the truck, its basic controls, maneuvering, loading, unloading, parking that you need to simulate when you are asked to perform all of the instructions. You must perform well and exhibit your skills driving the truck.

  5. A written test will be administered after. This will determine your knowledge that you have gained from the classroom lectures and practice driving. Pass the test and you are assured of receiving your forklift certification.

  6. Evaluation follows. At this part, the trainer will be assessing all the trainees through the written test and assessment during the practice driving.

  7. When you have passed the training, you will be given a license card or operator card that you can present to your company or prospective employer.

All individuals who are presently employed, your company is the one responsible to provide you the forklift training you need. As per OSHA legislation in 1999, the employer must establish a training program for forklift operators to assure their competency driving the forklifts.

Forklift certification is only valid for three years.

Forklift Training Schools in West Virginia

The best effective mean of training delivery is attending the course in person. I discourage you not to take the forklift certification online. You cannot be wholly certified when you finish from an online provider. OSHA states the certification must have three parts: classroom lecture, practice driving, and evaluation. With online certification, you cannot complete all three.
